Coach Bio

Molly West has over 40 years’ experience coaching volleyball at the collegiate, high school and club level. An Arizona native, Coach West was recruited out of Glendale CC by the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a setter. In her senior year, she was voted team co-captain and earned All-conference honors. Following graduation, she was an assistant coach at UAB, Colorado State and Cal State Fullerton.

Coach West returned to Arizona in 1990 and after coaching four years at McClintock High School she was hired to develop the volleyball program at Desert Vista High School which opened in 1995. Coach West built DV into a volleyball powerhouse compiling a record of 642-296 over 26 years with 2 state championships in 5 state championship match appearances as well as multiple region championships. Notably, the 2015 and 2014 Desert Vista teams were ranked first and second in the nation by MaxPreps. 55+ Desert Vista players went on to play in college, many at the Division 1 level. DV volleyball grads have also played in the American and European pro leagues as well as the AVP.

Additionally, Molly West has coached two years of Arizona High Performance and took two USA Volleyball 18’s teams to the G’Day Down Under games in Australia. Among her personal accolades, Molly was selected in 1990 as a USVBA All American setter, Central Region Coach of the Year (1998, 2001), ESPN Coach of the Week (2000), East Valley Tribune Coach of the Year (2004) and Big School Coach of the Year (2014). Coach West has been actively involved in club volleyball since 1984 as a coach and also a club owner. She has coached both girls and boys, at all age levels at stops like AZ Foothills, where she acted as the club director as well, EVJ, AZ Primitive Boys, Sprial VBC, AZ Storm and now at Aspire, and her teams have qualified for Nationals on numerous occasions.

Coach West is currently an assistant coach at Chandler Gilbert Community College.

Coach West holds a Master’s Degree in Education from UAB and taught Biology at DV as well as serving as the attendance Dean. She is married to John West and they have three children: Jillian (West) Francis, Taylor West and Britton West and two grandchildren, Dylan and Tommy.
